It has certainly been a tough few weeks – hope you and your family are safe and are navigating what has become a different world! For all of us involved in sport and recreation, everything has changed, with events either postponed or cancelled altogether, group training put on hold and social activities kept to a minimum.
 
All that being said, there does seem to be some good news, with talk of restrictions being gradually lifted in the coming weeks – if this can be done safely I think we can all agree this would be in everyone's interests.
 
This got me thinking, with isolation being a ‘thing’ for a little bit more but an end in sight, thoughts turn to a few weeks down the track when some of these events announce new dates, local club racing kicks off again, group runs and rides are back on the road, swim squad is back and mandatory coffee stops return. I started planning my ‘Covid Comeback’ – what are my goals for return to normalcy? Where do I want to be physically on the bike? What races do I want to target and train for? What group rides do I want to excel in? What challenges do I want to take up? What sort of athlete will I be in my Covid Comeback?
 
Now is the time to start this preparation. With social distancing guidelines still in place, solo training is still the best option, however, once these regulations are lifted you want to be in form because we all now there is no better feeling than dropping your mates on the local climb or sprint. No matter if you have just started cycling or running as a form of exercise or transport, or you a seasoned athlete looking to hit some late year goals, now is the time to get the wheels turning for your own Covid Comeback. With Winter approaching – normally a time for road racing and longer events, maybe some longer base miles in preparation for Summer – now is the time to build for your Covid Comeback – an opportunity to hit your own goals.
 
Perhaps your Covid Comeback has a slightly different goal. You might be focused on maximizing the social aspects of your club or team – we all realise how important social interaction is during these times of isolation and we realise the importance of clubs and training groups in providing this interaction.
